The 1,000 Years

I was asked about the 1,000 years.

Actually I believe that they have almost ended!
My reason for saying this is that when Jesus died on the Cross He nailed Satan to the foot of the Cross. Saint Paul exposes this when he writes: “Buried with Him in baptism, in whom also you are risen again by the faith of the operation of God Who has raised Him up from the dead. And you, when you were dead in your sins and the un-circumcision of your flesh, He has quickened together with Him, forgiving you all offences, blotting out the handwriting of the decree that was against us, which was contrary to us. And He has taken the same out of the way, fastening it to the Cross, and despoiling the principalities and powers, He has exposed them confidently in open show, triumphing over them in Himself” (Col 2:12-15).
Thus the evil one was ‘bound for a thousand years’ meaning that he was bound for a long period of time, as 1,000 in spiritual numbers means a long time. When we exorcise the devil we say: “I bind you Satan and cast you into the deep recesses of hell…” and so for a long time we use the power of Jesus Christ when He gave His twelve disciples “power over unclean spirits, to cast them out, and to heal all manner of diseases, and all manner of infirmities” (Mt 10:1). Soon now, the demons will be released from hell and will make their final assault on the world (Apoc 9:2).
